Re: Monthly report – May 2005

I continue to mail out 25 brochures weekly to prospective veterans and groups from my database of addresses.

I have mailed a group of 10 finished interviews to the LOC this month.

The plans are still in the works for the Division 13 Blessing of the Fleet in which hopefully there will be 10-20 WWII Coasties as our guests. I plan on getting some of them on a review boat as well as taping most of their interviews for the Veterans History Project.

I continue to send monthly reports and suggestions to my staff.

Re: Monthly report – February 2005

I will be promoting the project at the March conference in Mystic. There will be a short video or power point presentation at my table. I will make extra power point presentations and an information sheet on how the USCG Auxiliary can assist. There will be information and materials available about the project and 3 videotapes of veterans’ interviews. Hopefully, some auxiliarists who are veterans would like to have their story told at this time.

I have made contact with a USCG WW II Veteran who is a member of the Combat veterans organization. I plan on setting up a day, maybe at Station Jones Beach, where these veterans can go down and tell their stories. His name is Maurice “Moe” Steinberg who also wrote a book titled “ A Sailor at War – on the Greenland Patrol – WW II”.

I continue to mail out 25 brochures weekly to prospective veterans and groups from my database of addresses. I have mailed out a package with information, brochures, a powerpoint presentation and suggestions on how auxiliarists can promote the project to all the Division Captains.

I have heard from two senior places and the Girl Scouts of Great er NY – I have sent them more information and if needed I will visit the senior places to interview the veterans.

I am still waiting to hear from the schools I have contacted about the project.

I have taped four interviews of my patients. I am waiting for a group of 5-8 to send to the LOC.

I have also made contact with the liaison at the LOC and he has sent me hundreds of brochures and packets.
