  1. Egress, Ditching & Water Survival
  2. Crew Resource Management (CRM)
  3. Search & Rescue Procedures (SAR)

Additionally, we held an “Engine-Out Clinic” that consisted of classroom presentation and lecture on engine out procedures and landing without an engine, this was followed by a practical workshop in which each pilot flew and landed a glider, enabling each pilot to experience true engineless flight. Lastly, we conducted Swim Tests throughout the District, throughout the year.

Mission Activity
D1SR AuxAir continues as the most active in the nation, operating 365 days per year and minimally scheduling 27 patrols per week – this includes MDA Patrols, Safety Patrols, Ice Patrols, Logistic Flights, and Familiarization Flights; as well as being always available for SAR callouts.

Average Number of Hours Flown Per Day 11.5

Training
During the first five months of 2005, D1SR has conducted district-wide training in the following areas:
· Ice Patrol Workshop
· SAR Workshop
· Safety Workshops
· Aviation Roundtable Discussion
· Ditching & Egress Training
· Observer Procedures & Techniques

Other Activities
During this same period, we have reviewed and improved the procedure for processing initial and annual certification and qualification input. Previously, the processing time for qualification input to Aux Data and Netskeds was averaging between two weeks and two months.

We have streamlined the system so that average processing time for qualification input is now running 72 hours or less with no loss in quality or control.

Via: Subject: VCO AV REPORT for September 2000
Date: 8 Sep 2000

There have been 155 Auxiliary aviation missions during the first seven months of 2000, from January through August. These flights were conducted in support of the following missions:
Logistics missions - 42
SAR safety patrols - 40
Training - 40
Ice Patrols - 29
ELT - 4

These missions totaled over 550 flight hours and more than 2,550 mission hours. This is an increase of greater than 27% over the flight hours from 1999, and an increase of 19% in the number of missions flown.

To support the program, we now have 31 currently qualified pilots, 17 observers (1 of whom is Aircrew certified) and 26 aircraft facilities in the First Southern. The number of actual SAR cases participated in by the aviation team has risen from 1 in 1999 to 4 this year.

We have scheduled a re-qualification and mini-workshop at Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod on October 7. This will be a joint effort with First Northern, where we will have Flight Examiners inspect aircraft, pilots and observers for qualification for 2001. Several small training sessions will be offered, as well as a test area for testing of aircraft marine radio installations and performance.

There will be an Ice Operations workshop at Caldwell airport in New Jersey on December 7 and we are working towards preparing for the day-long aviation workshop and swim test next March at the District Awards Conference.
