Sector New York South Report
To All:
All Divisions have held their COW. Member training is on going in all
Divisions. Most notable is “Operation Fog Knife” a Division
2 exercise with Division 2 and 14 participating. It will be using an
MDA scenario to capture the bad guys. It sounds like great training and
fun. Division 4 with Division 2 did a great job covering the Edison Boat
Show.
PE classes are on going in almost every Flotilla. Our area Emergency
Response Plan is complete to the Division level thanks to Division 4
IPDC Mike Rebeck. We are
striving to have flotilla plans in place by the end of March. We will
then work on the OPIII plans and forms. The three required workshops
are scheduled and will be complete by the May 31 deadline. Division 11
with 11-02 FC Victor Kleinman taking the lead will set up and run a Security
Safety Booth at the ASIS security show at the Javits Center at the end
of May. Division 12 is working with Division 5 and Station Kings Point
to fulfill the Station needs.
I sent out a Fleet Week participation flyer and have received about 15
replies. Please pass the word out again to all members so those who want
to help will reply.
A large number of our members will be attending the Conference and will
be participating in many of the seminars.
I attended the American Waterways Watch (AWW) seminar Orland o Florida.
I will share the information with all at the Conference.
Respectively submitted,
Frank M. Ferraiuolo RCO- SectorNY-South
I have set up a line of communication with all the DCPs and VCPs in
my area. I have attended division meetings in the area and have introduced
myself to our members. I will be attending all the COW’s except
division 2.
I have e-mailed and spoken to the Captains on what we will try to accomplish
this year. I explained what paperwork I would like forwarded to me. Each
Division will set up its own goals and what needs to be improved. This
year’s theme will be HARMONY. We will try and work together as
a division and area for the common good of the boating public and the
Coast Guard. We will be stressing the importance of putting differences
aside to accomplish our goals.
In December, I met with Captain Wiltshire along with Steve, Gail and
Tom. It was an interesting meeting and a good dialogue was held.
On January 9, Divisions 2, 4 and 14 met to establish training and emergency
call out procedures. We are planning to test the system in March. More
to follow. After the meeting we will see if we can include Division 11
also if feasible.
We will have a Captain’s meeting after the District Meeting hosted
by Gail and myself with Sal Arrico on the MDA patrols. We will try and
set up guidelines for these patrols .
Sector NYS also participated in the New York Boat Show with many members
working our booth.
Fleet Week is coming and I have been in contact with Commander Felker
on the Auxiliary participation. We might be involved in some new ways
,not just patrols and PA help. I will be the POC for this event and will
be working with Gail and the Coast Guard for this event.
