Subject: Division 15 Report for January 14, 2006 District Meeting

  • The Division Change of Watch was held November 14 at the Queensbury Hotel in Glens Falls, NY. Jason Dorval from Cape Cod Air Station, who was one of our AIM candidates prior to entering the Academy, was our guest speaker. He gave a narrated slide show of his first hand experience in New Orleans as a rescue helicopter pilot. It was a great show with great photos of the Coast Guard in action. I’m sure he could be persuaded to give the talk at future events. Attendance at the COW was up (66 attendees) and the following guests attended:
    • Captain Glenn Wiltshire, Commander Sector New York
    • Commander Elizabeth Young, DIRAUX
    • LT Jason Dorval, Pilot - Cape Cod Air Station
    • CWO Mark Ferreira
    • CWO Curtis Barthel
    • BMC Gregg Marsili, Station Burlington
    • Tom Venezio, VCO
    • Gail Venezio, RCO
    • Herman Tietjan, RCO
  • Our COW is also our awards banquet. To determine awards the SO-IS compiled statistics to that date. Some highlights were
    • Membership increase (3%)
    • Member Training 608 hrs (53% increase)
    • Operations 2854 hrs (40% increase)
    • Public education 836 hrs (27% decrease)
    • VSC & Dealer Visits 543 hrs (38% increase)
    • Total 21,501 hrs (26% increase) [CG savings $439,540 ]
  • We have several coxswain/crew members who have completed the cold water training and are interested in assisting the gold side this winter. They have no facilities but are willing to travel down to NY City, across to Portland or up to the Canadian border
  • Flotilla 1509 organized a night SAR Training exercise on the Mohawk River on September 17, which was attended by members of several of the other flotillas.
  • Participated in the training of the Port Authority Police of New York and New Jersey.
  • We participated in a "first responder" exercise in Albany County on October 2nd. This exercise is sponsored by the AMIC Group and involved several of the Albany Area first responder agencies. Auxiliary provided the "actors/victims" for this exercise. In addition to providing a public service it offered us the opportunity to become familiar with local responders and get an idea of how to interact the event we were involved in a real situation. It was also a lot of fun participating as actors and victims.
  • The next Division Meeting will be held on January 18, at the Meeting Place, Lake George, NY.

Respectfully submitted,

James Quaile, DCP 15, 01SR

Subject: Division 15 Report for March 6, 2005 District Meeting

1. Active duty personnel from Station Burlington and Division 15 members jointly manned a booth at Vermont Boat Show, Feb 18-20. The station brought their new RB-HS (Response Boat, Homeland Security) to the show. It was a huge hit with the boaters and attracted a much larger interest in the booth than normal. Five firm candidates for membership were identified.
2. We are working with Station Burlington to develop a plan to coordinate Auxiliary patrols on Lake Champlain between the two Flotillas that cover the Lake. We are formulating common policies that would provide the Station with a single point of contact for planning and coordination purposes and a single operating procedure.
3. We have scheduled a training meeting for April 9th in Lake George that will deal with all aspects of the MDA program; we have planned presentations from the CM, PV, MT areas as well as others. In addition to presentations on the MDA program, there will be a short presentation on what it takes to become a radio facility and what it takes to become a PV (one of our goals is to increase the number of Radio Facilities in the Division because of the large geographic area we cover). We will also use this opportunity to formally divvy up MDA visitation sites among the Flotillas to avoid overlap. We will also cover the required VE, PV workshop.
4. Mr. & Mrs. VanNess, parents of one of our AIM student reviewed their son’s career in the CG to date at our last Division meeting. They indicated their willingness to speak to any families interested in the AIM program.
5. Will have Auxiliary booth @ Lake George boat show; April 1-3
6. The next Division Meeting will be held on April 20th, at the Meeting Place, Lake George, NY.
