News Flash: Flotilla 10-13 1SR recognized by the Boat U. S. as the best Flotilla in the nation

Yes it's true! At the 2003 National Coast Guard Auxiliary Conference, which was held in Nashville, Tennessee on August 28-31, Flotilla 10-13 was presented with the award for the best flotilla in the nation. Boat U.S. gave it to the flotilla that was the most outstanding in the four cornerstones. Accepting the award for Flotilla 10-13 was FC Ken Hall, accompanied by Wendy Korteweg and Dave Elliott as well as founding members, Dick and Florence Turner. There were over 20 members of 1st Southern in attendance to cheer them on with this honor.
The conference was held at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel that is the largest indoor facility in the world. It contains 54 acres of beautiful scenery including waterfalls, a delta river (with boat ride), restaurants and shops. Highlights of the Conference included the open Area Hospitality Suites on Thursday evening, Country Western Fun Night and Dinner on Friday, and the formal Commodore's Banquet on Saturday. There were outstanding training sessions on Friday and Saturday that were very well presented and well attended. I would highly recommend attending a National Conference if you get a chance. The Fellowship with members from around the country is well worth it. Congratulations and Kudos to Flotilla 10-13!
