Responding to the WTC disasterConnecticut
Public Affairs gets the word out Since Sept. 11th the Coast Guards resources have been redirected to Operation "Nobel Eagle and Operation "Enduring Freedom" As a result many flotillas have been on a 24/7 stand-by or underway patrol status.The accompanying photos document the "shooting" process and some shots off the TV of how the piece looked on the air. The patrol consisted of boat owner and helmsman Don Bisson, Coxswain Gene Kierce,crewmember Art Soss and Public Affairs Officer and FC 24-2, Bill Rock. The feature report coveredtheincreased vigilance and emphasis on harbor security on behalf of the Auxiliary, now that Coast Guard resources have been redirected towards combat tasks. Regarding this subject, Bill Rock also appeared on Cynthia Scudder's half-hour public affairs program on WEZN radio in Bridgeport. Rock asked Bisson to accompany him and speak about his role in a dramatic rescue made the night of Sept. 29th in 5 ft. seas of a father and son, who's sail boat capsized and sunk. They were in the water for almost 90 minutes until auxiliarists pulled out the first person. Regular Duty Coast Guard on the 22-Ft rigid hull inflatable out of New Haven arrived on scene and pulled out the second person. Other PA activities included a 10 minute "morning show" interview between Bill Rock and host JerryChristopher on News-talk WELI in New Haven. As well as "sound bite" interviews on WSTC radio in Stamford and Connecticut Public radio statewide. Rock has also been asked to appear on WDRCin Hartford Newspaper articles also have appeared in the Connecticut Post, Stratford Star and other "Hometown papers" as well as the Bard. Bill
