Sunday June 13, 2004 dawned on a beautiful note; clear skies, nice sun and not a rain drop to be seen. All in all, it was an auspicious day for the Division 13 Annual Blessing of the Fleet.

At the rendezvous point, the fleet slowly grew and by the time of the parade we had a sizable contingent including U.S. Coast Guard, Nassau Marine Police and Town of Hempstead Bay Constable vessels. Since the operational part of the event is a communications drill, Richard Zwirlein SO-CM 13-12 came up with an imaginative procedure: each participating vessel reported to Auxiliary Radio Wantagh when getting under way; thus ARW took their “guard”. Upon arriving at Bay of Fundy and reporting same to ARW, the guard was released, at that point the vessel reported in to on scene Net Control, FSO-OP 1309 Alan Reff.

After the parade, which went off without a hitch, the fleet dispersed; some went straight to Short Beach where the Dockmaster Tom Negri assigned slips, others went back to home port and drove on land (how quaint) to the Station.

The party at the Station was the ideal setting to see old friends (or friends of long standing) and make new friends among division members we hadn't’t met before. We all received a real nice silk screened T-shirt (albeit XL). The weather continued to cooperate, the food was tasty and a good time was had by all - especially the many winners of door prizes.
