- CG 6505 Family Support -
The Coast Guard Foundation has established a "Family Disaster Relief Fund" to provide emergency assistance to the families
of the CG HELO 6505 crewmembers who were killed on the evening of 04-September when their CG helicopter crashed during
a training mission in Hawaii. Commander Thomas Nelson, Lieutenant Commander Andrew Wischmeier, Aviation Survival Technician
First Class David Skimin, and Aviation Maintenance Technician Second Class Joshua Nichols made the ultimate sacrifice while
serving their country. Contribution information follows below for the three different ways to contribute.
The Coast Guard Foundation was founded in 1969 to provide funds for the needs of the Coast Guard Academy and its cadets
that are not covered by federal operational funding. In 1986, the foundation expanded its operations to all Coast Guard
members and their families.
- To make a secure donation to the Family Disaster Relief Fund, please go to http://www.cgfdn.org/contributeform.php.
Select "Disaster Relief Fund" if you would like your gift to be directed to the families. In the "in memory of" box,
please note the following: "Family Disaster Relief Fund"
- To make a donation to the Fallen Heroes Scholarship Fund, which provides college scholarships to the children of Coast
Guard members who perish in the line of duty, please go to http://www.cgfdn.org/contributeform.php. Select, "CGF Scholarships" if
you would like your gift to be directed to the Fallen Heroes Scholarship Fund. In the "in memory of" box, please note
the following: "Fallen Heroes Scholarship Fund".
- Mail-in contributions may also be sent to the Coast Guard Foundation Office at 394 Taugwonk Road, Stonington, CT 06378.
Please make reference on the memo line or include a note indicating the fund to which your gift will be directed.
This incident serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers our CG heroes face every day and why the Foundation does
what it does to serve and support them and their families. Please keep the crew, their families and the entire Coast Guard
in your thoughts and prayers. Semper Paratus.
